SPACE (Sponsor A Child Education) Initiative
SPACE (Sponsor A Child Education) Initiative
The SPACE Initiative is the first project undertaken by the Society upon registration, in the fervent belief that education is the key to break the vicious cycle of poverty and ignorance.
Quote, Chinese emperor Kuan Tsu (5th Century B.C.), “If you are thinking one year ahead, plant seeds. If you are thinking ten years ahead, plant a tree. If you are thinking 100 years ahead, educate the people”, unquote.
SPACE provides a platform for needy students from underprivileged backgrounds to obtain cash relief to ease their financial burden, and an opportunity for individuals and corporate citizens to give something back to the society by being participants to the initiative.
All it requires is a simple gift of RM50 per month to help a poor student attain an education and upon progression to adulthood, be empowered to contribute to society. Even though education in Malaysia is free, there are other expenses such as stationery, shoes, books, transportation etc and this RM50 helps a long way to a student from a poor family. This bursary goes directly to the student and the sponsor will be kept in personal touch through letters, cards, visits and reports on the student’s academic progress.
The Society currently has two Iban students in Julau on its programme for a start, and the Society hopes to expand this initiative to benefit more needy students.
The Society appeals to individuals and corporate citizens willing to become sponsors to needy students in Sarawak to come forward and to contact 013-8164219 (Lina) for further information.
